The London Designer Outlet Skills Academy was set up in May 2015, initially funded by UKCES and supported by Quintain. The vision was to create an on-site Skills Academy and programme of courses targeted at retail employees on low wages to increase pay and progression opportunities and increase a local, work ready and talented resource of people.
Set up as a testing and learning programme, the courses and structure were refined and in addition, a store manager steering group and specialist retail training provider developed bespoke training in Retail Service, Standards and Selling skills and mentoring.
The courses launched in September 2015 and were supported by a mentoring scheme in store where senior employees accessed training
to support sales assistants.
