Couch to 5k at The Color Run

A group of runners at The Color Run London 2016, outside Wembley Stadium, at Wembley Park.

Back in April we told you about the 9-week training programme set up at the Yellow Pavilion by NBL Fitness, called ‘Couch to 5k’.

The goal was to offer local people the chance to join a training programme culminating in a free place at The Color Run, courtesy of Wembley Park.

As well as receiving free tickets to the #happiest5k, participants benefited from ongoing support and guidance delivered by coach Natalia, who gave them three 30-minute training sessions a week. The programme started gently in April and has been gradually ramping up over the last nine weeks, getting everyone in shape for the final 5k challenge.

Color Run took place on Sunday 12 June. 16,500 people descended on Wembley Park to run a colourful course starting at London Designer Outlet and weaving its way around Wembley Stadium and back to Wembley Park. There was music, laughter, excitement and a lot of coloured powder.

And we’re delighted to be able to report that the ‘Couch to 5k’ programme was a huge success! As you can see, the turn-out was great and our enthusiastic runners met the challenge; and all of them said they were proud that their hard work had paid off.

Michael, who manages the Yellow Pavilion and helped organise the ‘Couch to 5k‘ explained, ‘We’re really pleased with the dedication and hard work put in by all the runners who managed to transform their fitness levels over the 9-week period. They built a great team spirit along the way and helped each other to achieve their goal – from couch to 5k. It was wonderful to see such growing confidence in people who are new to fitness training. We’d like to thank Natalia of NBL Fitness for her inspiring training. We’ve just heard that this group will continue to run – so if you’re interested in joining too, please get in touch with us at the Yellow Pavilion.’
