London Designer Outlet launched its Skills Academy on 24 September 2015 to provide access to first-rate skills training for Wembley Park’s retail staff. A number of LDO’s store managers gave input into the course content, and continue to act as a sounding board for development and planning in partnership with the training provider The Inspiration Group who deliver workshops, while career planning and guidance has been supplied by LDO.
The first graduates completed the course in January 2016 after many hours of classroom study. Thirteen students from various LDO stores were ably supported by thirteen mentors. They graduated with City and Guilds Certificates for their new skills in Service & Standards and Selling in Retail.
The second course has recently started with fifteen new students supported by another fifteen mentors, and there are plans for a third course to begin at the end of March. Continuing the theme of development, some of the students from the first course will become mentors for the next round of students.
LDO is delighted to announce that, since the course finished, four of the students have received an increase in salary and five have either received a promotion or increase in responsibilities. We look forward to many more Skills Academy successes.
