Wembley Park to Light Up The Night
You asked for it…
And now it’s here!
On the 4th of November from 4pm, Wembley Park will stage its first ever ‘Light Up the Night’ festival. This multicultural night, with fireworks, music and a light parade will bring together the London Borough of Brent and beyond for an evening of animated family-friendly activities in celebration of Bonfire Night and Diwali.
The event builds on the success of previous years when fireworks displays and Diwali celebrations in Wembley Park have drawn crowds of over 30,000. One of only a few FREE fireworks shows on offer in London, the event will give the audience a distinctive experience, celebrating the borough’s diverse communities and cultures. The evening will be MC’d by Hakeem Onibudo, local hero and winner of 2017 Arts Council England Changemaker award; it will include live performances, Doctor Kronovator’s Fire Laboratory – an interactive environment with nine ingenious fire installations – and a fire and light parade created by Emergency Exit Arts (EEA), culminating in a firework spectacular.
The light parade, which begins at 6pm on Engineers Way, will start with 20 fire torches and feature hundreds of lanterns made by the local community, Dhol drummers, neon dancers, EEA’s famous go-anywhere mechanical elephant – which has appeared across the UK, from Canterbury to Edinburgh and at the Queen’s Golden Jubilee. Live music will be provided by Bollywood Brass Band, with performances from professional Bollywood and street-style dance shows across three stages on Market Square, in addition to a Night Food Market with the best of British and Asian food provided by local food vendors.
The parade will also include performers from celebrated Wembley costume design visionaries Mahogany Carnival Arts, best known for their large scale, kinetic costumes admired by millions at Notting Hill Carnival.
The procession will be live streamed and project mapped on to the buildings surrounding SSE Arena, Wembley and Brent Civic Centre for everyone to enjoy throughout Wembley Park.
Following the parade, a light show from Wembley Stadium Arch will kick off a spectacular 12-minute firework display over Wembley Park,
Visitors of all ages are invited to the lantern making class with EEA at The Yellow on:
Tuesday 23 October 1-4pm
Friday 26 October 1-4pm
Saturday 27 October 1-4pm
Then again on the morning of the event, at Wembley Library at the Brent Civic Centre. All participants in the lantern making workshops will then be invited to take part in the light parade itself.
