Sophie Ellis-Bextor braves snow to launch new shopping streets in Wembley Park
Sophie Ellis-Bextor, who this year marks her 20th anniversary in the music industry, and husband Richard Jones (of The Feeling) kicked off the launch of the new retail districts in Wembley Park.
The pair took to the stage to perform their latest DJ set, at an event, which unveiled the plans for a brand new shopping and dining destination for London.
The four new retail districts, set to open in Wembley Park, one of Europe’s largest and most iconic regeneration projects, will include independent shops and restaurants alongside destination dining and leisure. Spaces for start-ups and imaginative use of shared spaces are also at the core of the plans. This will also include an area for boutique shopping, an area for general convenience shopping, as well as a dedicated area for health and well-being.
Performing at the event, the singer, songwriter and model – who just announced she will be bringing out her latest album, Orchestral Greatest Hits, later in the spring, span her tunes in front of over 200 guests, in an area fast becoming a new cultural hub for the capital. The unveiling comes just two days after the announcement that Brent Council, the home of Wembley Park, has been selected as London Borough of Culture 2020.
Already home to the London Designer Outlet, the capital’s only outlet Centre, Wembley Stadium and The SSE Arena, Wembley, the 85-acre development site is undergoing a major cultural transformation. Boxpark Wembley, the largest of its kind to date, is set to open in the autumn – not long after a host of artists descend on the area through the opening of new affordable studio spaces in partnership with Second Floor Studios and Arts.
The new retail vision will be an important part of the transformation of Wembley Park, offering four distinct areas and shopping experiences that will cater for fashionistas and visitors to Wembley Park alike.
At the event, singer and songwriter, Sophie Ellis Bextor, said
“I’m thrilled to play a role in the launch of the new shopping districts at Wembley Park. It’s great to see the development as it grows.
“As a born and bred Londoner, I’m always excited to see areas in London being rejuvenated. I’m looking forward to finding out what brands will move here and what the future holds!”
Adding to this, Matt Slade, Director of Retail at Quintain, the developer behind the regeneration of Wembley Park, said:
“We’re delighted to have Sophie and Richard here today, to help us unveil the scale of our latest project. The new retail and leisure space will help cement Wembley Park’s fast-growing status as an exciting new destination to rival the very best areas of London. With excellent communication links to central London, the Home Counties as well as domestic and international tourists, we look forward to opening up Wembley Park to even more visitors, workers and residents.”
