The future of Wembley Park

For nearly 100 years Wembley Stadium and SSE Arena Wembley have been recognised as world renowned venues attracting over four million people every year to experience some of the greatest sport and music acts.

As well as a world class events destination, Wembley Park is a great leisure and shopping destination, and is fast becoming an exciting place to live, work and play. 1,000 people now call Wembley Park home, with a further 5,000 homes being delivered by 2020.

Wembley Park is fast changing; from a place people only think about visiting on game days and for gigs, to a vibrant neighbourhood alive all year round. As a part of this transformation, Wembley Park will be creating new jobs and opportunities for local people.

 


New jobs, new opportunities

The Wembley Park regeneration has already created 800-1000 jobs across the estate and at London Designer Outlet and is now creating, even more, opportunities for local people as well as up to 900 construction jobs per month during the build phases. Wembley Park Skills Programme

The aim of the Wembley Park Skills programme is to Increase the level, range and depth of local people’s skills in order to enable them to make the best use of opportunities at Wembley Park. This will foster the local economy with a trained workforce who will support businesses in the area as well as attracting new businesses to relocate to Wembley Park.


London Designer Outlet Skills Academy

As well as Construction Skills, Quintain has also invested in London Design Outlet (LDO) Skills Academy. Set up in May 2015, the vision was to create an onsite programme of courses, such as retail service standards, selling skills, visual merchandising and hospitality, for retail employees on low wages designed to increase their pay and promotion opportunities. Courses will be expanding to go beyond just LDO, with a focus on local residents and the high street, offering regular training and workshops hosted in Wembley Park’s community centre; The Yellow Pavilion.


Schools engagement programme

We have selected a number of local schools by proximity and number of pupils over 200. Each school has been allocated to Quintain and a contractor. Where contractors have a pre-existing relationship with a school we will encourage this to continue and ensure information is fed back into the framework and inserted into a wider reporting system. We aim to foster real, lasting and deep connections between contractors and local schools. The programme will be delivered in association with Brent Library and as the project grows we will build on the number of schools that we engage with. College of North West London

The College of North West London has a campus right by Wembley Park tube station. It also has a major campus nearby at Willesden and a Construction Skills Centre at King’s Cross. Alongside a range of full-time and part-time courses in a wide range of courses, the College also supports over a thousand apprentices each year at all levels, including Higher (Level 5) Apprenticeships. The College works with more than 100  employers in London and the South East including many major construction companies, providing training in over 20 construction and civil engineering frameworks.  It was rated ‘Good’ at its last Ofsted inspection in 2016 and its achievement rate for Apprentices is currently 17% above the national average. One of just two London colleges to be a partner in the prestigious Technician Apprenticeship Consortium, the College is a major regional training provider for the construction sector.

The College’s Apprenticeship team offers free advice and support for employers on training, recruitment and funding, and can also advise on the new Apprenticeship Levy.

Community skills

The skills programme will integrate with the Yellow Pavilion’s community engagement programme and strategy. Providing a range of skills workshops, talks and training provision, utilising local networks, resources and collaborating with the construction teams and The London Designer Outlet.

 


The Wembley Park Community Fund is an exciting new fund led by Quintain in partnership with Wates, McLaren, John Sisk and Son, and McAleer and Rushe. The Fund aims to make a real difference to local residents in Wembley Park and the surrounding area by encouraging community engagement, participation and place-making through funding a variety of community-led activities.

Funding is available to help address local needs under the following themes:

  • Better Places – making Brent a great place to live, work and visit
  • Better Lives – creating opportunities for and supporting education, employment and good health
  • Better Locally – ensuring local networks and services work effectively, are accessible for all and directly engage with local communities to make a Better Brent

Priority will be given to:

  • Resident/community led organisations and applications
  • Proposals for activities taking place at the Yellow Pavilion and other spaces and facilities in the Wembley Park area
  • Proposals that engage local people who are not currently involved in local activities or in shaping the future of Wembley Park
  • Projects involving: Children and Young People; Elderly and Vulnerable Adults; General Community

CONSIDERATE CONSTRUCTORS SCHEME

Wembley Park is a Client Partner of the Considerate Constructors Scheme which seeks to improve the image of the construction industry by striving to promote and achieve best practice under the code. All main contractors managed by Quintain adhere to this code.
The scheme has five key areas:

  • Protect the environment – we strive to protect and enhance the environment.
