Aerosol paint on concrete, 2022
Perched on the edge of the Wembley Park neighbourhood, this striking mural by artist Mark Anthony (ATM) celebrates the red kite—a bird of prey once critically endangered but now thriving. Visible from the Chiltern railway line as trains approach Wembley Stadium Station, the mural captures the bird’s elegant movement, symbolising hope for nature’s revival in urban spaces.
Commissioned in 2022, 'Flight' was created as part of Quintain’s sponsorship of London National Park City—a movement focused on making London greener, healthier, and wilder. As the developer driving Wembley Park’s transformation, Quintain provided funding for the scaffolding, site preparation, and artist fees, bringing this powerful symbol of conservation to life.
"This mural was painted to celebrate London becoming the first National Park City and the wonderful success story of the reintroduction of the once critically endangered red kite. Hopefully stories like this can be repeated with other species, to bring them back to their former abundance. The red kite population is booming and expanding from their original stronghold in the Chiltern Hills. Hopefully they will again become as common as they once were London and other cities..."
About the Artist
ATM is a street artist who paints urban walls with birds threatened with extinction. The Red List now tragically includes 67 seriously declining species in Britain. He has expanded his work to include mammals, invertebrates and marine creatures, all of which are in urgent need of protection.
He has a lifelong love of nature, having grown up surrounded by birds in an abundance which is now a distant memory. He has a particular connection to their songs, calls and the wild spaces they inhabit. His giant wildlife murals fill walls across London to Bristol and on to Poland and Norway.
More information is available on the artist's website.
