Celebrate Christmas Music from All Over the World

On Saturday, 7th December 2024, Wembley Park’s open-air Sound Shell will host A Global Christmas, an extraordinary concert celebrating the festive season through a rich tapestry of global musical traditions. Running from 1pm to 6pm, this free, open-air event invites attendees to journey through a thousand years of Christmas music against the iconic backdrop of the Wembley Stadium arch.

A Celebration of Diversity Through Music

Set in Brent, the UK’s second most diverse borough, where over 150 languages are spoken, Wembley Park’s residents and visitors are invited to join a festive journey across continents—all without leaving Olympic Way.

What to Expect

This one-of-a-kind musical experience showcases:

  • Caribbean steel pan orchestras, blending holiday carols with calypso rhythms
  • Motown and Afro-American classics, offering soulful twists on Christmas traditions
  • Balkan bands, bringing sacred seasonal harmonies from Eastern Europe
  • Victorian brass ensembles, evoking the grandeur of a bygone era
  • Ancient instruments like the hurdy-gurdy and hammered dulcimer, woven into modern beats
  • Indian dhol drums, energising festive melodies
  • A fusion of Arabic, Andalusian, Celtic, Medieval, and South Asian sounds

The concert is a vibrant reminder that Christmas music transcends borders, evolving through centuries of cultural exchange.

Nostalgia and Storytelling

The programme also features live readings of festive classics, including:

  • ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas
  • Hans Christian Andersen’s The Little Match Girl
  • Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol
  • Raymond Briggs’ The Snowman

These timeless tales will transport audiences into the magic and nostalgia of the season.
